Venus is just below Mars on the 1st in the predawn.  Mars moves higher throughout the month.  Jupiter rises just as Saturn is about to set around 10:30 pm at midmonth.  The closest Moon of the year occurs on the 21st, as does the longest solar eclipse of the century (seen over India and China).  Earth its furthest position from the Sun on the 3rd for this year.
