Volunteer Information
|
|
Volunteers are the core of our
Planetarium
and Museum staff. Their knowledge and staffing enrich the Planetarium and
Museum experience for visitors. Volunteers choose to work at the Planetarium
or the Museum, and many of our volunteers assist in both locations. We have
many opportunities for your volunteer service.
If you are interested in volunteering at
either or both locations, contact Laura Frye, the volunteer coordinator at
910-579-1016 or e-mail her at laura@museumofcc.org

Docents: What is a docent? A docent is a volunteer
with a special area of expertise. Docents will receive general training
about the museum and planetarium, its history, and its mission. Docents use
their education, career, and experiences to train our volunteers and share
their expertise with visitors. The Planetarium has needs for docents with
experience in astronomy, chemistry, photography, education, and computer
graphics. Flexible schedules are available throughout the year. The
Museum is especially interested in
docents with experience in education, training, science, biology,
environmental programs, marine biology, graphics, videography, or
technology. Flexible schedules are available throughout the year.
Volunteers-in-training will apprentice with more experienced volunteers and
docents on the first day of volunteer service as they go through orientation. Advanced volunteer training
is held as needed on various topics pertaining to the museum and
planetarium. Call Laura Frye at 910-579-1016 for more information.
